Israël pourrait ne pas l'emporter face à l'antisémitisme intellectuel mondial

Opinion : La décision de l'Association des études du Moyen-Orient (MESA) d'approuver le BDS pose des dangers qui dépassent ceux auxquels Israël a dû faire face jusqu'à présent - de l'Iran aux groupes terroristes locaux - car il s'agit d'une nouvelle manifestation de l'idéologie nazie.

Un jour seulement après l'attentat terroriste meurtrier de Be'er Sheva, où quatre civils ont été tués et plusieurs autres blessés, « la Middle East Studies Association » (MESA) a annoncé sa décision de ratifier la résolution Boycott, Désinvestissement, Sanction (BDS).

Si nous cherchons à comprendre pourquoi le terrorisme antisémite et djihadiste est bien vivant, il suffit de se rappeler qu'il bénéficie du soutien de parties intégrantes du monde universitaire occidental.

Le BDS reste l'aile de propagande et le bras intellectuel du terrorisme dirigé contre Israël.

De nombreux groupes terroristes ont opéré ces dernières années dans le monde entier, des Forces armées révolutionnaires de Colombie à l'Armée républicaine irlandaise (IRA). La plupart de ces groupes ne sont plus actifs, mais le terrorisme islamiste l'est, et il est en pleine expansion.

Plus d'un quart de million de personnes ont été assassinées par des djihadistes au cours des deux dernières décennies.

Les mouvements et groupes jihadistes ne sont pas tous identiques, mais ils partagent tous l'espoir d'un califat islamique qui, à terme, devra régner sur le monde et détruire Israël, avant l'anéantissement de tous les Juifs.

Dans l'un de ses récents sermons, le cheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, éminente autorité religieuse sunnite, a appelé ses fidèles à terminer ce que "Hitler avait commencé".

Le chef du Hezbollah, soutenu par l'Iran, Hassan Nasrallah, a déclaré qu'il était bon que les Juifs se rassemblent en Israël car "il ne sera plus nécessaire de les chasser à travers le monde et en Israël, la solution finale pourra être mise en œuvre jusqu'au bout".

Il est indéniable que lorsque certaines de ces organisations sont physiquement éloignées des frontières d'Israël, leur objectif de destruction reste le même.

La haine des nazis pour les Juifs, tout comme celle du BDS, n'est pas un processus logique. Après tout, les Juifs n'ont rien fait aux Allemands et la plupart des djihadistes du monde, de Boko Haram aux Talibans, n'ont jamais vu un Juif en chair et en os. Ceux qui incitent à la haine le font avant tout dans le but de cultiver leur propre identité. La haine était et reste une force unificatrice. Il en va de même pour les suprémacistes blancs, mais pour l'instant, les dégâts causés par les radicaux islamiques sont bien pires.

Ces groupes n'existent pas dans le vide. Ils sont soutenus par ceux qui se considèrent souvent comme progressistes et éclairés.

Aucun appel aux armes meurtrières ne peut réussir sans le soutien d'intellectuels.

Le philosophe italien Gianni Vattimo a écrit un jour : "Lorsque l'ancien président iranien Mahmoud Ahmadinejad appelle à rayer Israël de la carte, il ne fait qu'exprimer une demande qui devrait être plus explicitement partagée par les pays démocratiques qui le considèrent au contraire comme un ennemi".

Le philosophe britannique Ted Honderich, quant à lui, est allé droit au but dans son utilisation du jargon universitaire lorsqu'il a justifié la terreur palestinienne comme étant leur "droit moral".

C'est du néo-nazisme. Les Juifs sont diabolisés comme ils l'étaient sous le Troisième Reich. La diabolisation de l'État d'Israël est une tentative à peine voilée de dissimuler le désir d'anéantir tous les Juifs.

Tout libéral et humaniste sain d'esprit aurait dû se joindre à la lutte contre cette mutation intellectuelle de l'idéologie nazie, mais nous assistons à l'inverse.

Maintenant, la MESA a également été infectée. Le soutien au BDS n'est pas un soutien à la paix ou à la réconciliation, ce n'est pas un soutien à une solution à deux États, ce n'est pas seulement une critique du mouvement de colonisation. C'est un soutien à la destruction d'Israël.

Vattimo et Hondreich et tous ceux qui votent en faveur du BDS sont les mêmes. Ils sont complices de la campagne de haine et de l'horrible propagande - tout cela pour diaboliser le seul État juif du monde.

Par le passé, la MESA avait rejeté à plusieurs reprises le BDS, car ses membres avaient compris que l'acceptation de ce mouvement constituerait le franchissement d'une ligne rouge. Mais ce n'est plus le cas.

Aujourd'hui, Israël est confronté à l'Iran et aux mouvements terroristes d'une part, et à un "activisme" intellectuel, raciste et antisémite d'autre part.

Israël vaincra les premiers, mais pourrait ne pas l'emporter face aux seconds.

If we seek to understand why antisemitic, jihadist terror is alive and kicking, we need only to remember that it has the support of integral parts of Western academia.

The BDS remains the propaganda wing and the intellectual arm of terrorism aimed against Israel.

Many terror groups operated in recent years all over the world. From the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia to the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Most of these groups are no longer active but Islamist terror is, and it is growing.

Upwards of a quarter of a million people have been murdered by jihadists in the past two decades.

Not all movements and groups among the jihadis are the same, but they all share the hope for an Islamic califate that must ultimately rule the world, and destroy of Israel, to be followed by subsequent annihilation of all Jews.

Prominent Sunni religious authority Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, in one of his recent sermons called for his flock to finish what "Hitler had started".

Iran-backed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said that it was good that Jews congregated in Israel because "there will be no need to chase them around the globe and in Israel, the final solution could be implemented to the end".

There is no argument that when some of these organizations are physically distant from the borders of Israel, their aim to destroy remains the same.

Nazi hate for Jews, just like that of the BDS, is not a logical process. After all, the Jews did anything to Germans and and most of the jihadists in the world, from Boko Haram to the Taliban, have never seen a Jew in a flesh. Those who incite hatred do it primarily for the purpose of cultivating their own identity. Hatred was and remains a unifying force. It is the same with white supremacists, but at the moment, the damage done by the Islamic radicals is much worse.

These groups do not exist in a vacuum. They are supported by those who often consider themselves progressive and enlightened.

No murderous call to arms will succeed without intellectuals backing it.

Italian philosopher Gianni Vattimo once wrote: “When [former Iranian President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad calls to wipe Israel off the map, he merely expresses a demand that should be more explicitly shared by democratic countries that instead consider him an enemy”.

British philosopher Ted Honderich, meanwhile, went straight to the point in his use of academic jargon when he justified Palestinian terror as their "moral right".

This is neo-Nazism. Jews are demonized as they were under the Third Reich. The demonization of the State of Israel is a thinly-veiled attempt to disguise the desire to annihilate all Jews.

Any sane liberal, humanist should have joined the battle against this intellectual mutation of Nazi ideology, but we are witnessing the opposite.

Now MESA too has been infected. Support for the BDS is not support for peace or reconciliation, it is not support for a two-state solution, it is not just criticism of the settlement movement. It is support for Israel's destruction.

Vattimo and Hondreich and anyone who votes in favor of the BDS are the same. They are complicit in the campaign of hate and the horrendous propaganda - all to demonize the only Jewish state in the world.

In the past, MESA had repeatedly rejected the BDS as its members understood acceptance of that movement would constitute crossing a red line. But no more.

Now, Israel faces Iran and terror movements on the one side, and intellectual, racist and antisemitic "activism" on the other.

Israel will overcome the former, but may not prevail when faced with the latter.
